If you never heard of Tuthill Porsche, don’t feel very bad about it. This doesn’t make you less of a Porsche fan. In all honesty, Tuthill is a UK-based company specialized in building some of the best rally-spec Porsche cars, and, if you don’t follow the motorsport industry, it would be kind of hard for the name to be familiar. But, during the 2022 Monterey Car Week, Tuthill proved that it can also build some of the best restomod cars. With this cool-looking 930-generation Porsche 911 Carrera, Tuthill even gave Singer a few reasons to worry.
Depending on the model year and the spec, the 930-generation Carrera was offered with a turbocharged air-cooled flat-six engine, with displacement ranging from 3.0 to 3.3 liters. Tuthill opted for a 3.1-liter four-valve engine that revs to 11,000 rpm! While the final output numbers were not revealed, for sure this restomod delivers a lot more than even the most powerful 930 out there, which was rated at 330 horsepower from the factory. The engine features a carbon fiber intake plenum and is mated to a magnesium six-speed 915 K transmission - which wasn’t available until later 964 and 993 generations of the 911.
The best part is that Tuthill’s 911K only weighs 850 kilos (1,874 pounds), which means you should expect incredible performance figures. Other incredible updates offered with this 911 K include a competition pedal box and wiring harness, a bespoke oil tank, and a cooling system with an electric fan placed under the front of the car.
Since we are talking about a car aimed at being very lightweight, many elements of the 911K are made from carbon fiber. The list is very long and includes: the roof, the doors, the rear quarter panels, the front wings, the front and rear bumpers, the bonnet, the engine lid, and the rear bulkhead. Even the Fuchs-style wheels are made from carbon fiber. They measure 15x7 inches in front and 15x9 inches at the rear and are offered with carbon ceramic discs and Tuthill Porsche calipers.
Just like with the exterior, the interior is also all about the intensive use of carbon fiber. With this in mind, the bespoke seats, the RS steering wheel, the hydraulic e-brake, the dash panel, and the door cards are made from this light material. For the rest, Tuthill opted for Ultra Fabric and Ventile with bespoke embroidery, while the gear knob, the torsion bars, and the anti-roll bars are made from titanium.
Tuthill did not reveal how much, or how many examples of the 911K it will build, but it said it will be built in "limited series." One thing is for sure: you shouldn’t expect to hear a price of less than $500,000!
