PORTLAND, Ore. – Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) will recall some 139 2021 model year vehicles which might have an under torqued front caliper-mounting bolt.
The recall covers certain 2021 Western Star 4700, Freightliner Business Class M2, Freightliner Cascadia, Western Star 5700 vehicles, Freightliner Custom Chass XC Chassis as well as Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner HDX and Thomas Built Buses Saf-T-Liner EFX buses.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-018 and Part 573 Safety Recall Report 21V-017 a loose caliper-mounting bolt could eventually lead to a vehicle mishap.

“Insufficiently torqued bolts may not provide adequate clamping force between the brake caliper and brake anchor plate potentially resulting in reduced brake effectiveness. Reduced brake effectiveness could lead to a vehicle crash,” the reports indicated.
The report describes the issue as, “Vehicles manufactured with a certain steering arm configuration with air disc brakes might have one of the six brake caliper-mounting bolts on the driver side steer axle incorrectly torqued. This could result in surrounding caliper bolts to loosen.”
To remedy the issue, franchised DTNA dealers will inspect and, if necessary, repair the problem. Dealers will be notified of the recall beginning March 19 with customer notification to follow.
